560A

The 560A was certified to CAR 3 Amendment 2 on July 1, 1955. This model is similar to the 560 model except for the following: Engines were changed to Lycoming GO480-D1A (275HP) on the early SN’s (231-442) & Lycoming GO480-G1D6 (295HP) on later SN’s (304-450), nacelles were redesigned, fuselage was lengthened on the later SN’s, Takeoff power was increased, as well as structural changes to the wing and new landing gear installed.

The 560A (L-26B) was also used and occasionally flown by President Dwight D. Eisenhower during his time in the White House from 1956 to 1960 for short trip primarily when visiting his farm in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. This marked the first use of any “off the shelf” light-twin engine aircraft considered safe enough for the President of the United States and was the smallest plane ever to be used as “Air Force One”.
